The technology enabled assistants to buy movie tickets online and do other things.
The search engine giant quietly stated this week that it is discontinuing Duplex on the Web. According to a support website discovered by TechCrunch, the service will no longer be available at the end of 2022.
“By the end of this year, we’ll abandon Duplex on the Web and focus entirely on AI enhancements to the Duplex speech technology that benefits customers every day.”
Initially, the function was intended to assist Android users in purchasing movie tickets.
Duplex on the Web enabled the Assistant to surf webpages on its own.
According to TechCrunch, the reason Google is shutting down Duplex on the Web may have something to do with the cost of teaching an AI to analyse websites.
According to the feature’s help page, Google employed a custom user agent to scan webpages numerous times each day.
