Launching rockets to put satellites in orbit at night is nothing new for Elon Musk’s SpaceX company.
Elon Musk Company SpaceX and T-Mobile announced their collaboration on August 25, 2022, which would provide satellite coverage for T-Mobile’s phone services.
In 2023, SpaceX stated that it would launch its Direct-to-Cell satellite technology in 2024 to enable faster mobile device connection for people globally.
Right now, in a press release on Wednesday, January 3, T-Mobile announced that SpaceX launched the first Starlink satellites with Direct Cell capabilities on Tuesday, January 2, and T-Mobile is prepared to begin testing its satellite phone service.
According to T-Mobile, the goal of this project is to avoid the need for expensive satellite phones and mobile dead zones.
For example, people can keep coverage once the service is available in locations not covered by terrestrial network coverage, such as rural areas and the ocean.
T-Mobile claims that, at first, the service can only handle text messages. Although it claims voice and data will be added in the upcoming years,
