20 Best Platformer (Sidescroller) Games for Android & iOS

Old classic platformer games were entertaining to play. I have never felt so much joy playing modern games, including intense games such as the Battlefield series, COD, or DOTA. Maybe I have grown up, and matches do not excite me as much as they did in the 90s when I was a kid and video games were something new for me.

But I still love to play games like Trine, Limbo, Ori, and The Blind Forest on PC. I still remember those days, and it makes me sad whenever I remember those days when we used to play Pitfall, Felix the Cat, Shinobi, Contra Force, Double Dragon, etc., all night and day.

I am always hunting to find and play great platformer games on my Android phone. A recent great find for me is Collect or Die. Here are the best  Android platform games that are my favorite, and I have played them all. Best iPhone platform games, iPhone users can get these games on the Apple App Store.

While some ports of the best old platform game are also available on the Google Play Store, they are tough to play due to the poor control scheme. Therefore I have tried to refrain from including those games. I have also included some refreshed versions of the old platform games with improved graphics and control schemes.

Best Platformer Games

Enjoy the best Platformer games available on the Google Play Store and Apple Appstore. We hope you will like them.

Traps n’ Gemstones is a fun action-platformer game for smartphones, focusing on exploration in a retro 2D environment. You can play as an explorer who wants the lost treasure by diving into a pyramid because many villains imprisoned all villagers and stolen their belongings. You have to free the villagers and find all the glory. The game is fun to play; I hope you will like it.

Lode Runner 1

Lode Runner 1 rebirth the good old classic platformer Lode Runner game with improved graphics, levels, and touch controls. The idea and the gameplay are still the same, run, climb and blast your way through over 300 new insane levels. A fantastic new addition is the stage editor to build your stages.

Collect or Die

Collect or Die is a unique retro platformer with challenging hardcore levels and dynamic ragdoll physics. Though the game graphics are very minimalistic, the game is a pleasure to look at. The idea behind the game is simple, Collect coins while avoiding obstacles. Run, jump and dodge your way to complete hundreds of challenging levels.

Badland 1 & 2

You have probably played one or both of these two if you love platform games. You should not wait to download this one; stop reading and click on the link to download the game. The game comes with simple silhouette-type graphics, but it looks fantastic. The controls are straightforward, and so is the gameplay but, the game levels are not easy to complete. Badland 1 also comes with co-op multiplayer, includes a level editor, and has full support for controllers if you have one.

Limbo

Limbo is probably the first game to introduce the creepy silhouette environment. The game comes with a black and white type of graphics. While it looks like Badland (actually Badland looks like Limbo) graphics-wise, the gameplay is night and day. While Badland requires a rush to play, Limbo is more like a puzzle game. You have to use your mind to solve puzzles to succeed.

Leo’s Fortune

Leo’s Fortune is one of the most beautiful and popular Android and iOS platformer games available on Android and iOS. The games’ graphics are unique, and so is the gameplay. The game comes with 24 beautifully designed levels. You have to survive different traps and solve cleverly designed physics-based puzzles to succeed in the 24 levels.

Lep’s World 3

Lep’s World is the third installment in the popular Lep’s World Series. It is an award-winning platformer, including 120 exciting levels. If you were a fan of the Super Mario game back in the 90s, you would love this one too. The game’s gameplay and graphics strongly resemble that of the Super Mario. If you were looking to play Super Mario on Android, but Mario Run disappointed you, you should check out this game.

Never Alone: Ki Edition

Never Alone is one of the older puzzle platformer games released in 2014. It is one of the best-looking puzzle platformers on mobile that I have ever seen. Never Alone: Ki Edition brings fantastic graphics, smooth gameplay, beautiful cinematics, and an exciting story. You play as a young girl Nuna and her friend Fox explore different levels, solve puzzles, and fight boss battles. You have to switch between the fox and the girl to pass various obstacles, just like Trine on PC. The touch controls are easy to handle and support hardware controllers.

Rayman Adventures

Rayman was one of my favorite platformer games in the ’90s, and it is still my favorite on Android. A number of them were released on the Android and iOS plat, including the Rayman Classic. All of them are very popular and fun to play. But of them all, I love the Rayman Adventures more, and luckily it is free. The graphics, animation, gameplay, everything is world-class. You should check this one out if you haven’t yet.

Sword of Nolan

Sword of Xolan is another great platformer game for iOS and Android with a retro look. The game features 30 unique levels and nine time-based challenge levels. It lets you fight over 30 different enemy types like Zombies, giants, and flying creatures. The touch controls are customizable, and there is also controller support if you find the touch control hard to manage. The game will cost you $0.99 with no additional IAPs.

Another World

Another World or Out of This World (as it is known in the US) is another classic platformer game that resembles the original Prince of Persia in many ways. The game is story-driven with a sci-fi theme; the graphics are polished but reach the classic POP. The difficulty level is high, but you will be fine if you have been playing such games. The game will cost you $3.99, which is a bit harsh. There are no IAPs.

Duck Tales: Remastered

Duck Tales: Remastered is the reincarnation of his best classic platformer games debuted on NES in 1989. The game has been refined, including HD graphics and great controls. The game provides five beautiful environments for you to explore as you sail on an epic adventure across the World. Duck Tales: Remastered $4.99 with no ads and IAPs.

Terraria

Terraria is a fantastic 2D platformer. The object is to collect the things and craft them into building materials and equipment, so you survive in a harsh world. There are two versions of the game available in the Play Store. The free version comes with ads and in-app purchases, while the paid version will set you up for $4.99 and has no IAPs.

The Cave

The Cave is an exciting Adventure game on Android & iOS in which you assemble a team of three adventurers and descend into the depths of The Cave. The game has seven characters, but you have to choose a group of three using their unique talents to solve the puzzles hidden within three exotic locations. The game is fun to play, and the graphics are pleasing to the eyes. The Cave will also cost you around $2.99, and there are no in-app purchases.

Bean’s Quest

Bean’s Quest is an excellent 2D platformer game with a retro look and simple graphics. The game controls are straightforward, but the game itself is very challenging. There are 50 levels in the game, spread over five worlds. I still find the game to be a bit short.

 Dan The Man

Dan The Man is the latest retro-style platformer game from the makers of Jetpack: Joy Ride. The game has three modes: story mode, survival mode, and battle mode. The game mechanics are straightforward, kill the evil guys, avoid obstacles, and fight boss battles. You can play the game free with in-app purchases.

Gunman Clive

Gunman Clive is a unique platformer, and the graphics are also a particular type. The game environment is made of sketches on old yellow paper which gives a charming and unique look. I love how this game looks. The gameplay is similar to other 2D platformers. One strange thing is that there are no checkpoints. Dying at any stage of the game will have you restart at the beginning.

Leap Day

Leap Day is not a sidescroller. In this game, you have to climb up, jumping in the air while avoiding the obstacles and traps. I like the game because you get to play a different level every day. The game is a good time passer, and I love it every day.

Swordigo

Swordigo is a fantastic platformer for Android & iOS which lets you embark on an epic adventure, jumping and slashing your way through different challenges. The game enables you to explore dungeons and beautiful towns, find items and weapons, to defeat monsters. The game features 3D-type graphics easy customizable controls optimized for touch-enabled devices.
