According to Money Control and Platformer, Meta may offer a Twitter alternative like Mastodon in the future.
The social networking behemoth is apparently working on an app codenamed P92 that would allow users to upload text-based updates and will use Mastodon’s social networking protocol called Activity Pub.
“We’re researching a standalone decentralized social network for exchanging text updates,” Meta revealed to reporters.
If users use their Instagram login, it will populate their profiles with their Instagram account data.
According to a source, the software would allow users to broadcast their postings to others on other servers, although it is unclear if they will be able to follow one other.
The sources did not specify if the firm will charge a price for its badges, but it’s worth remembering that Meta introduced a $12-per-month premium verification service for Facebook and Instagram in February.
At the moment, Meta is undecided about allowing users to alter postings in the same way that they can on Twitter.
