Mammoth, a new Mastodon app, has already received 10,000 downloads in its first few days on the App Store.
For example, this month, the creator of the famous Twitter client Tweetbot released Ivory, a new Mastodon software after Elon Musk’s API updates wiped out the company’s Twitter-focused precursor with no notice.
“At launch, the Mammoth app provides access to a broad set of baseline features, such as the ability to browse and switch between Mastodon time content such as text, images, GIFs, and polls; use features such as private messages, lists, and bookmarks; change the app icon and theme; enable dark mode; access multiple accounts; and even undo posts with a custom duration, similar to Twitter.
Despite the competitive field that includes Mastodon’s official client and a number of third-party applications, like the recently launched Ivory from Tap bots, Mammoth’s 10,000 installations demonstrate there is still consumer interest in Mastodon apps.
While consumer interest in Mastodon has declined since Musk’s purchase of Twitter, interest in the larger Fediverse has grown.
Before Musk’s Twitter acquisition, the Fediverse, which includes Mastodon and various other social applications, had over 570,000 monthly users.
