FFmpeg, a free and open-source platform for handling audio, video, and multimedia files, has recently released a new major release called FFmpeg 7.0 “Dijkstra.”
The latest update of FFmpeg is now freely available for download. The latest update, Dijkstra, is regarding the native VVC decoder.
This VVC decoder is currently in the experimental phase but will be available in a stable version soon.
Another major thing that users need to remember is that it needs to be compatible with previous updates. Hence, it will remove APIs before version 6.0.
So, there will be a significant change to the old bitmask-based layout API, which aVChannelLayout will replace. It will have features like custom channel ordering and deprecated ffmpeg CLI and Ambisonics.
Like various other releases, there will be support for new formats, filters, codecs, APIs, bug fixes, and minor changes.
Version 7.0 contains more than 2000 new git commits compared to version 6.1. The new update will bring some major changing to this one of the most popular media streaming platforms.
