Elon Musk's Neuralink Implants Brain Chip in First Human

A major breakthrough has been achieved in the field of healthcare technology as Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain chip startup, announced the successful implantation of their device in a human patient. According to Musk, the procedure took place on Sunday, and the patient is reportedly in excellent health.

This bold experiment seeks to enable individuals suffering from paralysis to use their thoughts to effortlessly operate digital interfaces, like computer cursors or keyboards.

Musk shared the latest development on social media in a post where he mentioned:

The first human received an implant from @Neuralink yesterday and is recovering well.

Initial results show promising neuron spike detection.

The first @Neuralink product is called Telepathy.

In May 2023, Elon Musk’s company, Neuralink, got approval from the FDA to start testing its brain implant on people. Before that, in 2022, the FDA said no to human trials due to worries about the device’s battery, wires moving in the brain, and concerns about safe removal without harming the brain.

But by September 2023, Neuralink got permission to recruit people for trials. On January 29, 2024, Elon Musk announced that they had successfully implanted the Neuralink device in a person, and the patient was doing well after the surgery.

Neuralink is a U.S. company working on brain-computer interfaces, located in Fremont, California, as of 2022. Elon Musk and a team of seven experts founded Neuralink in 2016, with the first public mention of the company appearing in March 2017.
