To date, users need to verify their account through OTP via SMS. But in some cases, a user may not have access to their phone number, or their phone number may no longer be active.

WhatsApp SMS verification is a secure way to log in to your account without OTP. But what if you don’t have access to your phone number? As of now, you will not be able to receive SMS verification and, hence, won’t be able to log into your WhatsApp account.

But things are changing now. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on an alternative verification method, and this will be through email. In the future, users can use their email account to log in to WhatsApp, as they can use their phone numbers for the same purpose.

The upcoming email verification won’t replace the existing SMS-based verification method, but it will be an additional feature if you are away from your phone. This new email verification feature is in the beta stage and available for Android and iOS users.

This new feature can be found in the settings section of the app. The screenshot shared by WABetaInfo shows that it will be easy to set up the new verification method on Android and iOS.

In the WhatsApp beta, there is a section in the settings of WhatsApp where users can enter email addresses. It will not be visible to any third person. When a user enters their email in WhatsApp, they must verify it.

Besides email verification, WhatsApp is also working on various other features to improve the security and user experience.
