Battery percentage is coming back to some iPhones but it’s…different

Apple’s battery-percentage-in-status-bar functionality returns in iOS 16 beta 5.

Apple’s iPhones used to be able to show battery percentage in the status bar before the notch was added to the top of their displays.

The battery percentage was still visible, but you had to swipe down from the upper right corner to view it.

This is the first time the battery percentage has been in the status bar of a new iPhone since it was removed with the release of the iPhone X in 2017.

The functionality has returned in the most recent iOS developer beta (iOS 16 beta 5), although with a slightly modified look.

Still, it’s (almost certainly) better than nothing.

Only the iPhone X, iPhone XS and XS Max, iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max, and iPhone 13, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max will receive it, according to MacRumors.

Because this is a developer beta, everything about the feature, including its availability and appearance, may change before it is included in a generally accessible iOS update.
