On Tuesday, a widespread outage affected Meta platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads, leaving millions of users unable to access their accounts. The disruption, which impacted users worldwide, triggered both frustration and humor across the internet.
Following the recent Meta platform outage, Elon Musk, the owner of the social media platform previously known as Twitter (now called X), injected a touch of humor. He posted a message on X, saying, “If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working,” in response to the Meta platforms’ downtime. His lighthearted comment triggered a flurry of memes and reactions from X users.
In a humorous touch, Musk also shared a tweet from Andy Stone expressing frustration and posted an image that featured penguins adorned with Meta’s insignia, applauding a penguin bearing the X logo.
During the outage, users faced various issues, such as automatic logouts, difficulty refreshing feeds, and error messages upon attempting to log in. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone acknowledged the problem, stating, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”
While Meta worked to resolve the outage, disruptions were also reported on other platforms, including WhatsApp, owned by Meta. Downdetector received numerous reports of outages, compounding the challenges in restoring normal service.
Despite the inconvenience faced by users, Musk’s playful response provided a moment of levity amidst the disruption. As Meta services gradually resumed, Musk’s post on X remained a humorous footnote to the day’s events.
