Apple Sports App Brings Live Scores, Stats and Betting Odds
Apple has launched a new app called Apple Sports, which is now available for free on the App Store in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The app is compatible with any iPhone running iOS 17.2 or later and provides users with updates on sports games, stats, box scores, and betting odds. Users can select their favorite sports league and teams during setup, and the app will automatically curate past and upcoming games for the selected teams. For those who’ve already selected their preferences in the Apple News or Apple TV apps, there’s an option to seamlessly transfer them to Apple Sports. Users can also tune in to live games directly from the scorecards if they are subscribed to sports streaming platforms.

Currently, the app supports several leagues, including MLS, NBA, NCAA basketball (men’s and women’s), NHL, Bundesliga, LaLiga, Liga MX, Ligue 1, and Premier League among others. Apple plans to add more leagues for the upcoming season, including MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL, and WNBA.

One of the standout features of Apple Sports is its customization options, allowing users to tailor their scoreboards to follow their favorite teams, leagues, and tournaments. Users can easily switch between different sections to access play-by-play information, team stats, lineup details, and live betting odds – which can be disabled if preferred.

While the app is free to use, it serves as a gateway to Apple’s other subscription offerings in live sports, particularly through the Apple TV app, where users can access live games from various sources. Apple’s strategic investments in the sports realm, including partnerships with Major League Baseball and offerings such as the MLS Season Pass, reflect its commitment to expanding its services revenue, which reached a record $22.3 billion in the fourth quarter.

Looking ahead, Apple may introduce paid features within the Sports app in the future, but there are no announcements regarding such plans at present. With its user-friendly interface, comprehensive coverage, and potential for further enhancements, Apple Sports is poised to become an indispensable companion for sports enthusiasts worldwide.
