According to a report by Bloomberg, DJ Novotney, a distinguished hardware engineering architect at Apple, is leaving the company to join Rivian Automotive.
Novotney has worked at Apple for an impressive 25 years and has played a significant role in developing iconic products such as the iPod and iPhone across various hardware generations.
He has also led the development of the iPad and contributed to the successful launch of the Apple Watch, as per sources within Apple.
According to the latest report from Bloomberg, DJ Novotney is set to assume the role of Senior Vice President of Vehicle Programs at Rivian, where he will report directly to CEO RJ Scaringe.
In a memo released on Friday to announce his departure, Novotney shared details about his upcoming position and responsibilities within the Rivian team.
“Great products are what we do best and I have been so very lucky along the way to be part of so many amazing teams that developed everything from iPod, iPhone, iPad, Watch and so many more,” Novotney wrote in a memo to colleagues that was seen by Bloomberg. “Apple has been my life, but now is the time for me to move on and help bring to life a new set of products.”
In the past few years, Apple has witnessed the departure of several key executives. Among the noteworthy figures making exits are Tang Tan, who served as Apple’s VP of product design for the iPhone and Apple Watch; Tan is set to join Jony Ive’s LoveFrom design firm next month.
Additionally, Steve Hotelling, a leader in hardware technologies, parted ways with Apple last year.
