Samsung Ramps Up XR Headset Development to Challenge Apple's Vision Pro

Samsung is stepping up its game in the extended reality (XR) space, with reports indicating a significant boost in efforts to develop XR headsets. The company’s Mobile Experience (MX) division has initiated a ‘secret organization,’ dubbed the ‘immersive team,’ consisting of around 100 experts dedicated to accelerating XR device development.

Collaborating with industry giants Google and Qualcomm, Samsung aims to revolutionize the future of mobile with cutting-edge XR experiences. MX Division Head Noh Tae-moon emphasized the collective effort to shape the next generation of XR devices.

Concerned about potential competition fallout, especially after Apple’s successful sales of over 200,000 Vision Pro headsets, Samsung is intensifying its XR initiatives.

The secretive immersive team, comprising specialists from various Samsung Electronics departments, is gearing up for the launch of the XR Touxian later this year. Expected to coincide with the release of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 in the second half of the year, details about the Samsung XR headset are gradually emerging.

Rumors suggest the XR headset will feature innovative specifications, including 1.03-inch OLED displays boasting an impressive 3,500ppi pixel density. Powered by the Snapdragon XR2+ processor, the device is capable of delivering high-resolution visuals with minimal latency.

Additionally, the headset will integrate a suite of cameras and offer full-color passthrough functionality. Anticipated to be competitively priced compared to the Apple Vision Pro, Samsung’s XR headset is set to support the entire Galaxy ecosystem, promising seamless integration with Galaxy devices.

With the launch of the Galaxy Z series scheduled for July/August, Samsung enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the debut of the XR headset. As Samsung commits to staying ahead in the XR race, consumers can expect a formidable competitor to Apple’s Vision Pro, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of XR technology.
