Google refunds for Stadia purchases

Google stated in September that it would discontinue its Stadia cloud gaming service in early 2023. Google also announced intentions at the time to reimburse all Stadia game purchases made since its launch, and those refunds are already being processed.

Stadia will close on January 18, 2023. Google’s Stadia shop is already closed, and the Stadia Pro membership service is no longer available. While Stadia Pro subscriptions will not be reimbursed, any game purchases made through Stadia will be refunded immediately. The reimbursements began this week, but owing to the large number of refunds that must be made, it may take many months for all of them to be approved.

As a result, Google is requesting that Stadia users refrain from contacting customer service for game refunds. Google says its customer support agents will be unable to expedite refunds for customers, so customers should refrain from contacting Google about Stadia refunds until January when the vast majority of refunds should have been issued.

Customers who purchased 20 or fewer games/DLC on Stadia will receive individual refund emails. Those who purchased more than 20 games on Stadia will receive a single email outlining all refunds at once. If a refund cannot be sent to the original payment method, Google will contact those customers again to arrange another payment option.
