Facebook users who have used the social media platform over the past 16 years are now eligible for settlement money.
Facebook was accused of violating Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) by collecting biometric data without users’ consent. As a result, the company has agreed to pay $650 million to settle the class-action lawsuit.
Eligible Facebook users will receive a notification informing them of their eligibility, and they can then submit a claim through a dedicated website. The amount of money each user will receive depends on how many people submit claims, but it is estimated to be around $200 per user.
