Poco X6 - A Comprehensive Review

POCO started off the year 2024 with a bang by launching its new X6 series for both the international and Philippine markets. The lineup consists of three phones, namely X6, X6 Pro, and M6 Pro 4G. Today, let’s take a closer look at the entry-level X6 model.

Even though it is a mid-range smartphone, it comes loaded with impressive features, including up to 512GB of storage, 12GB of RAM, and the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset.

The best part? It is affordable and won’t put a dent in your pocket. Are you planning to upgrade your phone in 2024? Let’s determine in this review whether the POCO X6 is suitable for you.

Xiaomi Poco X6 Review: A Budget-Friendly Powerhouse

The Xiaomi Poco X6 is an affordable and powerful smartphone with a large display, a high-performance processor, and a long-lasting battery.

It has an attractive design and a high-quality camera system. Considering its price, the Poco X6 is an excellent device that performs well in every aspect.

 Design And Build

The Poco X6 smartphone boasts a symmetrical design with a glossy back, a plastic frame that has a matte finish, and a Gorilla Glass Victus screen protection. It is available in three color options – white, blue, and black.

The white variant has a unique marble texture, while the black and blue variants have glossy finishes that are prone to fingerprints. However, you can use a case to safeguard the device from fingerprints. The phone’s rear features the Poco and 5G logos beside the triple camera setup.

The device has rounded sides, a compact profile, and is easy to handle, weighing just 187g. The frame houses a 3.5mm headphone jack, a speaker grille, a microphone, and a power button on the right. On the bottom is a second speaker grille, a sim tray, and a USB-C port for charging.

 Display

The POCO X6 boasts a massive 6.67-inch OLED display with an under-screen fingerprint sensor and a subtle pinhole for the front camera. The colors are brilliant straight out of the box, with accurate tones and deep blacks.

It guarantees smooth animations for videos and games with its 120Hz refresh rate, while outdoor use is made more accessible by the screen’s 1800 nits of brightness.

Despite lacking a bottom-firing speaker, the dual-stereo speakers produce an immersive audio experience. However, if you prefer a more personalized audio experience, you can use wired earbuds or a Bluetooth headset.

Remember that the display is prone to fingerprints, much like the back panel, and may require occasional cleaning, mainly if your hands are wet.

 Camera

The Poco X6 5G comes with three cameras: a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro lens, as well as a 16MP selfie shooter. The impressive camera has excellent dynamic range, brilliant detail capture, and accurate color reproduction. The 16MP front camera captures fine details and realistic skin tones, producing excellent results.

The rear 64MP camera supports 4K@30FPS video capture, making it the show’s star. Meanwhile, the front camera handles 1080P@60FPS video capture smoothly. With these capabilities, you can confidently record your moments with style.

  OS, UI, and Apps

The Poco X6 comes with MIUI 14 instead of the expected HyperOS based on Android 14. However, with the latest software updates, it still stands as an excellent device. There is a possibility that HyperOS will be added in future updates, especially if the phone is officially released in the market.

The only downside is that the interface automatically switches to search mode when the menu opens. While some may find it useful, others, including myself, find it irritating. Additionally, the phone has pre-installed games and apps that can be uninstalled if they are not of interest.

Overall, the Poco X6 is an impressive smartphone, and with upcoming updates, it is expected to achieve greater heights. While it is already a fantastic device, the prospect of further improvements makes it even more exciting.

 Performance and Benchmarks

The Poco X6 is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, which is becoming increasingly popular in mid-range smartphones. Although its CPU cores are slightly older, the processor performs well in benchmarks.

The Adreno GPU, with a plate number of 1, supports FHD+ resolution at 144 Hz and is ideal for mid-range gaming. Even though the communication platform is not the newest, it still has Bluetooth functionality and offers reasonable speed.

The phone’s camera features support up to 200 MP still photos and 4K video recording. Three LPDDR4X RAM + UFS2.2 storage options for the Poco X6 are available: 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 512GB (ours).

With the exception of GFXBench, benchmarks show strong performance, comfortably placing it in the mid-range category. For its low cost, the Poco X6 5G provides decent performance and stability.

 Battery and Charging Speed

The POCO X6 features a 5,100mAh lithium-ion battery pack, which is slightly larger than most other models in the same segment.

However, it appears that the extra 100mAh doesn’t make much of a difference. In my experience, the battery lasts an entire day with regular usage, but when playing games, it does drain quickly.

According to the PCMark’s Battery Test, we received a respectable battery life of 13 hours and 19 minutes.

With its 67W fast charging capability, the Poco X6 can charge 47% in 15 minutes, 78% in 30 minutes, and 100% in just 48 minutes!

with optimized charging for a longer battery life, it’s a speedy and savvy powerhouse. Fast, furious, and battery-friendly – the Poco X6 has it all!

 Unboxing

The Poco X6 comes packed with a useful black silicone case, a USB-A-to-C cable, and a 67W charger. All of these are neatly arranged in a stylish black box with vibrant yellow labeling.

The phone’s display is fitted with a thin protective film made of Gorilla Glass Victus. However, it’s entirely up to you whether you’d like to keep it or peel it away.

Its notable features include an IP54-rated design, Dolby Vision OLED display, and impressive 67W fast charging. While excelling in design, display, battery, speakers, and overall performance, the camera’s low-light capabilities could be improved.

The absence of HyperOS at launch is a drawback, but an upcoming update is expected to address this. Overall, the Poco X6 offers a compelling package, setting a high standard for budget smartphones in 2024.
