The startup’s goal is to create a technology that allows individuals to interface with computers directly through their minds.
Elon Musk, the billionaire, said on Sunday that his brain-computer interface startup Neuralink’s “show and tell” event, which was scheduled for later this month, has been rescheduled.
The event, which was initially set for Oct. 31, has been postponed for Nov. 30, according to Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk in a tweet Sunday morning.
Musk founded Neuralink in 2016 with the intention of developing an implantable device that would allow humans to connect with computers directly through their brains rather than traditional, slower input technologies such as touch screens, keyboards, or even voice assistants. He has touted the project as a way to help mankind stay up with breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, but the focus has lately shifted to developing a gadget to help individuals with impairments reclaim their talents.
Neuralink presentations in 2020 and 2021 showed the technology in action with pigs and monkeys, but he’s apparently disappointed with the company’s rate of growth. He stated in December that the experiment is doing well in monkeys and that he hopes to have it in the first humans, such as quadriplegics and tetraplegics, this year, subject FDA permission. He has not, however, received FDA permission.
Neuralink did not reply quickly to a request for comment.
